Health Sciences Curriculum
Here are some new lesson and activity ideas for this week:

The coronavirus continues to make the daily news. Help students understand the coronavirus with the resources below and use the Jigsaw Learning Strategy to review the articles.

1. Show the COVID-19 video to explain the virus’s origin, structure, method of transmission, and symptoms.

2. Use the What Does the Coronavirus Do to the Body? article to review the infection and the causes of respiratory problems. Reminder: High schools now have free access to the New York Times through September 2021.

3. Use the How Coronavirus Hijacks Your Cells article to cover how the virus enters a vulnerable cell to make viral proteins that spread the infection.

4. Use the video How does Soap Inactivate Coronaviruses? to enlighten students about how the proper washing of hands can control the virus' spread.

Anatomy & Physiology: Use this National Geographic video to introduce all the major systems in the Human Body. Then, implement the LabXchange - Musculoskeletal System with lesson plans covering types of skeletal structures, bone development, joints and motion, and muscle contractions and locomotion.
HOW WE'RE TEACHING ONLINE
This week, get advice on managing "concurrent classrooms" from blended learning expert, Catlin Tucker. Then learn about managing the hybrid learning environment from Emma Pass, a Google Certified Trainer.
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING - RACIAL EQUITY IN PRACTICE
Watch this video from the Museum of African-American History and Culture, where Dr. DiAngelo helps us ask, "Why does understanding white privilege matter?" Dr. DiAngelo also appeared on Jimmy Fallon this past summer to talk about why white people should stop saying they’re not racist. Then check out this research showing that children not only recognize race from a very young age, but also develop racial biases by ages three to five.
WHEN WORK-BASED LEARNING GOES VIRTUAL
Do you need help finding internships or putting together a strategic plan for your advisory board? These best practices for securing quality internships and for strategic planning were shared by advisory board leaders during several national and regional convenings.
