NAF's Education Today
This week we’re sharing project ideas! Just plug-and-play these into your lessons this week to get students excited about IT and Engineering.

We’re building a video advice library for how to do great virtual work-based learning, and we’d love your contributions! Click here to share a 2-4 minute video response with us.
Resource of the Week
First Lenovo Guest Speaker Goes Live Tuesday!
Catch the first installment of the Lenovo Virtual Guest Speakers Series coming up this Tuesday, October 6 at 9:00 am ET. Invite students to hear from several Lenovo employees, where they talk about the winding pathways that brought them to one of the largest technology companies in the world.
IT & Engineering Curriculum
Here are some helpful lesson and activity ideas for this week:

Programming: Students can download this free coding tool and learn how to start programming their own virtual robots by VexRobotics.

Web/Digital Design: Using HTML and CSS, your students can build a website around a cause that is important to them from Girls Who Code.

Cybersecurity: Are your cybersecurity students competitive? CyberPatriot, the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association (AFA), created a competition to inspire students to consider careers in cybersecurity or other STEM disciplines critical to our nation's future. Register for this year’s competition on October 15th!

Computer Networks: Have your students get hands-on experience experimenting and solving different kinds of problems associated with networked computers using the Internet Simulator from code.org.

Engineering: Use this new transdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, where students can learn to solve their problems and protect their ideas through invention education application from MIT's Full STEAM Ahead.

Integrated STEM Project: Students can learn the principles of engineering design by designing, building, and ultimately racing through Mousetrap Cars by CTE Online.
HOW WE'RE TEACHING ONLINE
Your students love TikTok, but did you know there’s content in there for you too? Check out 25 teachers you should follow on TikTok. Then get inspired by these teachers who are using video to share educational and engaging lessons on social media.
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING - RACIAL EQUITY IN PRACTICE
We’re exploring "Translanguaging" this week! Watch one of the world's experts, Dr. Ofelia García, offer an orientation on this practice and then listen to this podcast from Karen Silfa, who’s taught in NYC for nearly 20 years, illuminate the practice of translanguaging, starting with its role in computer science education.
WHEN WORK-BASED LEARNING GOES VIRTUAL
Help students adjust to work-from-home. Check out this plug-and-play student workshop that addresses challenges students might be having learning or working remotely from home. Lesson plan with discussion questions and slide deck provided.
