Amidst all the challenges of reopening schools, the shooting of Jacob Blake is devastating. The continued violence and racial injustice are unacceptable – and alongside a pandemic, virtual teaching, extreme weather, and fires that are crushing communities, it’s hard for many of us to be fully present at school.

We’re focusing this week’s email on how to build a safe, culturally responsive classroom environment. You can find tips on discussing racial equity with your students, join a NAF Next speaker for a cultural competency training in September, or find tips on how to care for yourself and your colleagues so you can be ready to support your students.

Finance: Try out Everfi’s lessons introducing banking basics and financial literacy, then play this payment decisions game from NextGen Personal Finance for a fun way to learn about the pros and cons of using a credit card vs. cash.

Accounting: How is an income statement like water in a tub? Introduce your students to the concept of an income statement using this project example from CTE Online.

Business & Entrepreneurship: Follow CTE Online’s Ellie the Entrepreneur on a journey through starting her first business – understanding things like her credit score, investing money, and building an Excel spreadsheet.
HOW WE'RE TEACHING ONLINE
Zoom is free for educators again, and our educators love its simple ways to split people into breakout rooms or put everyone on mute. Then once all your students arrive online, get them energized for the day with these nine openers that will build community and creativity. 

WHAT WE'RE LEARNING - RACIAL EQUITY IN CTE
