Election Day is upon us and first things first—are you ready to cast your vote? We recommend you visit Vote.org for specific information about the ways you can vote in your state. 

The election might bring up a lot of questions, feelings, and opinions for students. You can plan ahead for talking about the election in your classroom with What will you do on Wednesday? from Teaching Tolerance or this blog from Edutopia focused on students' social and emotional needs related to the election.

Here are some lessons and activities to try:

Engineering: Creating projects quickly, efficiently, and of higher quality is the future. Use this team activity from CTE Online to have your students design and develop a soccer cleat dirt removal mat, using the engineering design process.

Finance & Business: Inform your students about how to get funding for their start-up business by registering for Financing Options for Small Businesses. This self-paced training exercise is an introduction to financing options for businesses including determining financial needs, loans, grants, and more.

Health Sciences: Have your students learn more about DNA cloning and its processes, through the Bacterial Transformation & Selection and afterwards, further their engagement through this virtual lab, Transforming Bacteria Simulation.

Information Technology: Try this fun activity by CTE Online, The Javengers, and engage your students in Java by creating Super Hero objects!

There are lots of off-camera options for staying creative in the way you deliver your practice online. Hear from Dr. Michael Wesch on what online teachers can learn from YouTubers about engaging students. And with Election Day this week, check out this blog from Edutopia for tools to foster social and emotional learning while connecting the election to math, literacy, and social studies lessons.
