NAF's Education Today
We are excited to launch a new section on naf.org: NAF’s Education Today! In addition to this weekly email series, you can visit resources.naf.org to access curated lessons and activities by career theme and topic, live events for students and educators, and help from our community. We hope this will make teaching during the pandemic a little easier—let us know what you think. 

And don’t forget! Join us this Tuesday to learn about how you can create a culturally competent classroom and then on Wednesday come learn about effective blended teaching and learning practices.

Check out our recommendations for your classroom this week:

Engineering: With this interactive assignment from PBS, students can explore different types of energy and decide which type should be used to power a city’s electric grid. 
 
Finance & Business: Check out this activity from CTE Online where students learn to manage their finances to buy a car virtually. Students explore different financing options, make the best choice for their situation, understand the opportunity cost, and hand in a report that details their findings. 
 
Health Sciences: Check out Disease Control & Prevention in NAF’s Health Careers Unit 2, where students join the CDC in investigating an outbreak and use the Coronavirus Resource Center to provide the relevant information students will need to investigate COVID-19. 
 
Hospitality & Tourism: For NAF’s Principles of Hospitality & Tourism Unit 2 - Lesson 4, students will learn about the Environmental Impacts of Tourism and select one of the featured environmental impacts to research and write a one-page summary of the pros and cons of tourism’s effect on the environment. 
 
Information Technology: Combine what students have learned in HTML and CSS to create their own webpage with this course from Khan Academy. 
HOW WE'RE TEACHING ONLINE 
This year, engaging caregivers as co-teachers is more important than ever. Watch this webinar to learn strategies for connecting with caregivers during remote and hybrid learning, then learn how to avoid the three most common mistakes in distance teaching. 
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING - RACIAL EQUITY IN PRACTICE  
September 15 - October 15 is Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month! Use this discussion activity in your classroom to help students gain a deeper understanding of past and present struggles for Latinx civil rights, then be sure to check your bias and identify areas of growth with this personal assessment.
