We’re inviting current NAF students and alumni to submit a short video about their internship experience to help inspire more NAF students, as well as employers and community partners, to invest in high school internships. We encourage you to share this fun opportunity with your class! All participating students and alumni will be entered for a chance to win a iPad. The submission deadline is January 8, 2021.
Resource of the Week
Teach AI Technology
Want an engaging project that teaches AI?
Check out Bot Camp’s ready-to-teach curriculum that enables your students to create an AI chatbot that simulates chatting with their favorite celebrity.
Brought to you by Capital One and Major League Hacking, this program is free for everyone and well-suited for all levels of coding experience. And best of all you don't need deep AI expertise to teach it!
IT & Engineering Curriculum
2020 has been a hard year but it is coming to an end! Check out our following out-of-this-world resources and orbit out of 2020 on a space-tacular note:

Programming: Students create an interactive simulation of a spacecraft docking at the ISS space station. This activity guide from NASA includes recommendations for beginner and advanced-level programming. Students can also experience the actual interface used by the astronauts from Space X.

Web/Digital Design: NASA invites students to join the Lucy Mission in Space contest by creating a message to any future finders of the Lucy spacecraft, a craft likely to orbit the sun for a million years and could be recovered by our descendants.

App Developer: In this activity by Code.org, have students create a flash-card app that can be used to teach elementary students about the Solar System using App Lab.

Engineering: Check out this activity from Siemourens where students are invited to design a Mars Rover, taking into account the condition of Mars.

Interdisciplinary: Challenge your students this week to imagine leading a one-week expedition to the South Pole of the Moon and writing about it through the Moon Pod Essay contest from NASA.
HOW WE'RE TEACHING ONLINE
We loved the session “Assessment in a Hybrid World” at the CTE Is Essential virtual conference the week before Thanksgiving. Check out these assessment strategies from presenter Liz Gallo, which includes her contact info if you have any questions or need advice.
WHAT WE'RE LEARNING - RACIAL EQUITY IN PRACTICE
Listen to this episode of The PilotEd Podcast that focuses on interrupting implicit bias in the college admission process and a journey to being a college counselor. Then, read this literature review by The Black First-gen Collective including their call to action for more research on the experience of Black first-generation college students.
WHEN WORK-BASED LEARNING GOES VIRTUAL
We need your help! To help communicate the value of having an internship in high school, we’re inviting current NAF students and alumni to record short videos talking about their internship stories. Please share this opportunity with your students—all participants will be entered into a drawing to win one of five iPads!
