This week we celebrated our first-ever Internship Week! We shared tools and resources that can help you plan virtual internships, convert jobs to internships, re-imagine service-learning, and more. We also heard from NAF students and alumni on the importance of high school internships. You can look at all our Internship Week videos and resources on our YouTube channel and be sure to sign up for our office hours if you'd like additional support!
Resource of the Week
Join us for NAF’s Virtual Benefit!
The online broadcast on Thursday, May 13 at 7 PM ET will celebrate our spirit of Resilience + Innovation, showcase students and alumni as they continue to achieve and astound, and honor NAF’s incredible teachers for their dedication, creativity, and perseverance. The special event will be open to our entire network of students, teachers, alumni, volunteers, and corporate partners.
Curriculum You Can Use
Internships are valuable in how they expose students to new skills and opportunities they would not otherwise receive in the classroom. Interns gain technical knowledge within the industry of their choice, learn how to interact with professionals in a workplace setting, and develop essential soft skills like time management, organization, adaptability, and more.

In April, use the Plan Your Summer Internship Lesson Plan to immerse students in preparing for their summer internship or, with a few adjustments, a part-time job that can become an internship. Or be adventurous! Implement a Bitmoji Classroom to encourage students to forge their path to an internship using the 5E's (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate). Have your students complete internship-related items such as filling out their career inventories, creating their LinkedIn profile, and achieving the Job Application Essentials badge – a prestigious credential from Open P-TECH.
ONLINE & HYBRID TEACHING
Researchers from the Connected Learning Lab at UC Irvine discuss the findings from their recent report, “Social Media and Youth Wellbeing: What We Know and Where We Could Go,” which examines the relationship between teens' technology use and mental health.
RACIAL EQUITY IN PRACTICE
Chief Wilma Mankiller was the first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation. With a fierce determination on closing the educational and health gaps in the Native American Community, Chief Mankiller fought for tribal rights. This Women's History lesson plan highlights what makes someone an effective leader.
EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT
It’s time for Advisory Boards to begin strategic planning for the 2021-2022 school year and NAF has some fantastic new and refreshed resources to assist with this process. In addition to downloading data from ASH, use the new SWOT Analysis and Strategic Plan Templates to build a robust strategic plan!
